Avocados October 28, 2008

Avocados are easily my favorite food.  A lot of people shy away from them because they are known to be very fattening.  But, don’t be afraid of all fats, some fatty acids are essential to healthy brain functioning.  Omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids are found in avocados.  If you need potassium and hate bananas, avocado are actually a better source of potassium.  They have tons of vitamins and dietary fiber, which is why most people call them a superfood.  Last, but not least, my favorite fact is that an avocado has more usable protein than an 8 ounce steak. Mmmm so yummy!

Avocados ARE a superfood, not just because of their nutritional content – they are also an excellent comfort food and complement a wide range of dishes very well. It’s so versatile it may just be the only thing that plays well in sushi, bubble tea, soup, ice cream, curry sauce, as well as as its own hand-held snack. Unlike other so-called superfoods, avocados are always stylish and can give an exotic flare to any dish that doesn’t get out much. They can help the kilogrammatically-challenged become healthful fatties. Not only is it rich and sexy on its own, the avocado was once used as an aphrodisiac – so much so that it tarnished the pure image of those caught consuming this massive suggestively-shaped berry. That’s right, it’s a berry. Eat it. :p
