Organic vs. Conventional April 28, 2009

Filed under: Health Facts and Concerns,Health Tips — Yvette @ 5:17 pm

Some people shy away from organic food because it’s so expensive.  But, don’t get overwhelmed, there are some foods that have higher pesticide residues than others.  I hope this list helps.

Nuts to Avoid:

  • Peanuts (they have appx 183 different pesticide residues)

Vegetables to Avoid:

  • Potatoes
  • Cucumbers
  • Celery
  • Summer squash
  • Green Bell Peppers
  • Collards
  • Spinach

Fruits to avoid:

  • Pears
  • Apples
  • Strawberries
  • Peaches
  • Raisins

Remember that pesticides are toxins meant to kill bugs and other pests.  The commercial produce listed above has been found to have very high levels of pesticides.  You may want to consider at least buying the produce listed above organic instead of conventional.
