I love my smoothies! Smoothies are a great way to get nutritious food into your diet and give your digestive system a rest. This is a great winter time smoothie because the main components are banana (a sugar dominant food) and coconut (a fat dominant food). Combining sugar and fat during the winter is the best way to keep the body warm. Adding in warming spices like cinnamon helps as well 🙂
- 1 banana
- 1/2 cup coconut butter or coconut flakes or coconut oil or coconut m(whichever is most available)
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp cardamom
- 1/2 tsp ginger powder
- 1 clove
- 1/2 tsp fenugreek powder
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
Throw it all in a blender and you’re good to go! You can use as many ingredients from the optional list, they are basically chai spices. Either way it is a very simple, delicious and warming smoothie.
Fasting on smoothies and/or juice can help slow down the aging process. Since smoothies are basically already chewed for you, your stomach has to do little work to access the nutrients. As for juices, there is no fiber everything is absorbed immediately.
Why would you want to rest the digestive system? Well, after years of hard work our intestines get clogged and less food is absorbed. This leads to deficiencies, overeating and diseases. Just as we clean the outside of our bodies daily, it is important to clean the inside on occasion. Also, allowing the body to cleanse itself and heal aids in slowing down the aging process.
